Cast confirmed for Ladies’ Day

We have finally confirmed our new cast for Ladies’ Day, which is scheduled to be performed at the Broadent Theatre in May 2022.

Go to our Forthcoming Productions page for full details:

Many thanks to everyone who auditioned. It was a really strong field!

Female actors required!

We love auditions, we really do! So much so that we’re having another one on Wednesday 1st September.

We’re still looking for two female actors to join our cast for Ladies’ Day by Amanda Whittington, which will be performed at the Broadbent Theatre in Wickenby from Wednesday 25th to Saturday 28th May 2022.

The play is set in a fish packing factory in Hull and York Races so the main roles really could do with a Hull accent (we’ll have help with this!). The two parts available are as follows:

Jan, mid-forties
Linda, early to mid-twenties

If you’d like to audition come to St Mary Le Wigford Church, St Mary’s Street, Lincoln LN5 7AR (next to the railway station) at 7:30pm on Wednesday 1st September.

If you are unable to come but would like to be considered, please email su.toogood@ntlworld.com.

Auditions for Ladies’ Day

Having had to postpone our next production twice, Su Toogood will be directing Ladies’ Day by Amanda Whittington at the Broadbent Theatre in Wickenby from Wednesday 26th to Saturday 28th May 2022.

The comic play is set in a fish packing factory in Hull and at York Races in June 2005 so the main roles really require a Hull or Yorkshire accent.

The play was cast in 2019 and we started rehearsals, but sadly since the pandemic people’s plans have changed and we now need to recast two of the roles:

Jan, mid-forties
Linda, early to mid-twenties

Auditions will be held at St Mary Le Wigford Church hall, St Mary’s Street, Lincoln LN5 7AR from 7.30pm on Monday 19th and Wednesday 21st July. You can choose which audition to attend, or you can come to both if you’re really keen!

If you are unable to make the audition dates, or if you would like more information, please email su.toogood@ntlworld.com.

We hope to see you there!

Drill Hall closure

Everyone at Common Ground is heartbroken to hear about the permanent closure of Lincoln Drill Hall.

The Drill Hall has been our spiritual home since it opened in 2004. Our first production in the main auditorium that year was It’s A Wonderful Life, and in all we have performed 20 different productions there, either in the main hall or in the studio space The Room Upstairs. Our last Drill Hall show was Waiting for Godot last year.

The Drill Hall team always welcomed us to their venue, tolerate us with great patience and offered us their full support – as they always did to all amateur and community groups. That happy mix of amateur and professional shows was just one of the things that made the Drill Hall a unique and special place.

Our thoughts and best wishes go to Chris Kirkwood and his team. We can only keep our fingers crossed and hope that somehow the venue rises pheonix-life at some point in the future. Cultural life in Lincoln will be much poorer without it.

Committee re-elected online

For the first time in 19 years there has been no annual meeting this year because of restrictions on gatherings of more than six people.

However we did circulate an update to everyone on our mailing list. If you would like to receive this update please email us.

We also consulted members who agreed to re-elect the existing committee for another year:

Jez Ashberry (Chair)
Su Toogood (Secretary)
Fraya Grove (Treasurer)
Kev Gillingham (Technical member)
David Thew
Elaine Howell

Let’s hope things get back to normal soon and we can get back onto the stage!
