Summer play readings

We will be reading some plays in June and July to help us to decide on what our future productions should be.

These will be informal play readings, not auditions; they’re an opportunity to read and listen to plays that we might want to produce in the future. Everyone is welcome to come and read, or just listen if you prefer.

We’ve booked the meeting room upstairs at the Victoria Pub, 6 Union Road, Lincoln LN1 3BJ from 7:30pm on the following Wednesdays:

21st June
Dark Sublime by Michael Dennis is a play about relationships, unrequited love and the nature of fandom. It explores the complexities of connection, especially in the LGBTQ+ community. It’s also a love letter to British sci-fi. Marianne is a fading actor who once starred in the cult TV show Dark Sublime. Unable to express her love for her best friend Kate, she forms a new friendship with a Dark Sublime superfan, Oli. Scenes from the TV show are woven into the action and mirror Marianne’s relationships in real life.

5th July
The Father by Florian Zeller. In a darkly humorous and deeply poignant translation by Christopher Hampton, this is a tragi-comic mystery, a sobering and realistic family story, and an unsentimental, emotionally intense look at the world through the eyes of a man experiencing dementia, a dramatic illustration of the physical losses which occur along with the mental ones. Anthony Hopkins won a Best Actor Oscar for his performance in the 2020 film based on the play, and Florian Zeller and Christopher Hampton won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.

19th July
The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter In the setting of a rundown seaside boarding house, a little birthday party is turned into a nightmare when two sinister strangers arrive unexpectedly. The play has been classified as a comedy of menace , characterised by Pinteresque elements such as ambiguous identity, confusions of time and place, and dark political symbolism.

Please join us on these dates and look out for more readings in the future.

If you would like to propose a possible play for us to produce or to direct yourself, why not email us and let us have a copy of it as soon as possible?

TICKETS ON SALE FOR LADIES DOWN UNDER

Don’t forget to book your tickets for our next production: Ladies Down Under by Amanda Whittington.

Grab your passports for an exciting trip down under!  Pearl, Jan, Shelley and Linda, the four fish packers from Ladies’ Day, have decided to use the money they won at the races to treat themselves to a luxury holiday in Australia – and Joe is already there!

However, just like their trip to the races, things don’t go quite to plan.

Join us as the original cast returns for the hilarious sequel!

Ladies Down Under can be seen at the Broadbent Theatre in Wickenby from Thursday 11th to Saturday 13th May 2023.

AUDITIONS FOR LADIES DOWN UNDER

Following on from the great success this summer of Ladies’ Day by Amanda Whittington, we will be staging the sequel Ladies Down Under at the Broadbent Theatre from Thursday 11th to Saturday 13th May 2023.

An audition will be held on Wednesday 9th November 2022 at St Mary le Wigford Church Hall, Lincoln LN5 7EQ.

Unusually for us, not all parts will be up for grabs. The original cast will be reprising their roles, but we need at least one more male actor to join them. The roles, which involving doubling, are:

Tom, a volunteer firefighter
Bill, a flight attendant
Ben, a flight attendant
Shane, a surfer
Danny, a traveller
Koala Bare, a drag queen
Bondi Bitch, a drag queen

An Australian accent will be required for most of these roles. There are no defined ages in the script, so come along and convince us that you have got what it takes!

If you would like more information or cannot make this audition, please email the director Su Toogood: stoogood1946@gmail.com.

Gaslight postponed

With regret we have had to postpone our upcoming production of Gaslight.

We had a short rehearsal timescale to begin with and Covid affected various members of the cast and crew, with the result that we lost three weeks from the rehearsal schedule.

Rather than go on stage undercooked we have postponed the production until 2nd to 4th March 2023. For more details and how to book tickets visit our Forthcoming Productions page.
