Common Ground Theatre Company
Amateur theatre in Lincoln, UK

Common Ground Theatre Company is an amateur theatre group based in Lincoln in the UK. The company was born in April 2001 when eight friends met in the Queen in the West pub in the West End of Lincoln to discuss setting up a new amateur theatre group in Lincoln.

We felt there was a need in Lincoln for an amateur theatre group which would welcome new members - both experienced actors and beginners - and which would aim to produce thought-provoking, high-quality, challenging drama.

From a standing start in April 2001 we staged a very successful production of Bill Naughton’s play 'Spring and Port Wine' in November 2001.

Since then we have staged a range of theatrical productions: dramas such as Julius Caesar, Closer and Hobson's Choice, literary adaptations such as The Turn of the Screw, Great Expectations and A Christmas Carol, and comedies including The Coarse Acting Show and Hobson's Choice. We have even staged a Victorian music hall evening and the world premiere of a new adaptation of the Jeeves and Wooster stories by PG Wodehouse.

Our roots are in the West End of Lincoln but we now have members all over the city and in the surrounding villages. We rehearse wherever we can find a space and we choose our performance venues according to the type of play we're putting on: so far we've used the Lincoln Drill Hall, Bishop Greaves Theatre, the Millennium Festival Studio Theatre above the Central Methodist Church, Croft Street Community Centre and the Broadbent Theatre in Wickenby.

We positively welcome new members, whether they are experienced in the theatre or want to try out something new. There's always plenty to be done behind the scenes so even if you don't fancy getting on the stage yourself give us a call or send us an email and we'll help you to get involved.

Membership costs £15 a year (£10 for the unwaged) and for that you get to act, direct, stage manage or help with costume, props, light or sound for free.

Important decisions are made by all members but Common Ground Theatre Company has a committee for day-to-day business. Currently the committee is as follows:

Chairman Jez Ashberry
Secretary Su Toogood
Treasurer Vicky Ashberry
Technical Kev Gillingham
Ordinary Member David Thew

Our patrons are Ken Lidbetter, Frank Connell and Joe Cooke MBE, to whom we are always grateful.
